Orientation? Due South

gakked from a_d_medievalist

I'm surprised how hetero-norm this is, actually...

Klein Sexual Orientation Grid

I scored an average of 1.62

01 2 3 4 5
6

HeterosexualBisexual Homosexual

Meaning

This result can also be related to the Kinsey Scale:

0 = exclusively heterosexual
1 = predominantly heterosexual, incidentally homosexual
2 = predominantly heterosexual, but more
than incidentally homosexual
3 = equally heterosexual and homosexual
4 = predominantly homosexual, but more than incidentally
heterosexual
5 = predominantly homosexual, incidentally heterosexual
6 = exclusively homosexual

Summary

The idea of this excercise is to understand exactly how dynamic a person's sexual orientation can be, as well as how fluid it can be over a person's lifespan. While a person's number of actual homo/heterosexual encounters may be easy to categorize, their actual orientation may be completely different. Simple labels like "homosexual", "heterosexual", and "bisexual" need not be the only three options available to us.

The unfortunate thing, of course, is that most of the other words people use to describe sexual preference are kind of silly. I always come out just a hair to the het side of bi on these things. :) (This one was 2.9.)

With this one if you really WANT to be PC and bi, and have done some experimentation, you move dramatically toward center :-) Likewise if you have been rigorously marching down one path or another based on a preset collection of social norms (religious, for example), you will pull dramatically toward hetero or homo (I have friends with gay parents who have tried desperately to be homo only to discover several years later that it's just not really their thing! weird). For me past, present and world-view all converge in about the same place, so the 2.9 wasn't a big shock.

Now, design of experiments/surveys theory states that you shouldn't ever give a score that falls in the exact middle if you wish to get a result that shows preference to one side or the other of the curve. Ergo, this survey has a fundamental design flaw *vbeg*

Interesting...why would the designer of this little gizmo want to give scores that fall to one side or the other?
