Sleeplessness

For one reason and another, I seem to have been operating on an average of about 4 hours sleep per night for the last week or so. Mostly, it's pain. I don't sleep for more than a couple of hours before my blasted hip wakes me up. Then, last night, when I was exhausted and sleeping quite soundly, Robinson woke me at about 2:30 am with his barking. And then again at about 3:00. Grrr. Of course, I woke up heart pounding, wondering if someone was breaking in... But although I looked surreptitiously out the windows, I saw nothing. I had a pile of stuff from the basement waiting on my driveway to be picked up this morning by a rubbish hauling company - maybe someone was out there riffling through to see if there was anything interesting. I didn't notice anything missing this morning (wouldn't have minded if there was - something less to pay for having removed!), but that doesn't mean that there wasn't someone there last night... I'm very very tired now, feeling kind of buzzed and wired as you do when you haven't slept enough. Went out this afternoon, though, and shopped for my trip, so my hip is aching again. And I heard today that I won't have my surgery until August. Bleah.

However, I'm so READY for my trip. All I have to do now is pack, and drop the animals off at their respective hostelries, then I'll be free, and able to relax and not worry about anything for two weeks at least.

Sleep deprivation s***s dirty gym socks. Gah. So sorry to hear the surgery's been delayed. Meanwhile, any chance you can get something a wee bit stronger for the pain, so you can get a night or two's sleep between now and August??

Thanks! Unfortunately, my stomach doesn t tolerate anti-inflammatories, and I have a doc who is too responsible to give out nasty (but effective) narcotic pain-killers. To be honest, a friend of mine who had broken his rib and been given nasty narcotics, gave me a small supply but I gave them back because they didn t actually do a lot for me... I seem to function more or less okay during the day, and just conk out in the evening (I ve become a bad date *grin*)

Bummer about the stomach ... ice is good, anyway, and very low in side effects!

I used to be very anti-meds, but have had to concede that I function far better these days with. I still conk out pretty quickly, though! *fall down, go boom*

You have to wait till August? That's a real bummer.

Alas, such is the reality of the Canadian medical system... I got bumped by a couple of emergencies, and what would have been a couple of weeks was exacerbated by the fact that my surgeon is off on holidays himself in July. In some ways perhaps it will be better to have a surgeon who is just BACK from hols rather than one who would not have been there post-op.

By the way, looking forward to seeing YOU next week (the 20th?) I ll be in touch off list via mail-forwarding, okay?

Would you be interested in doing lunch, Thursday or Friday? (All my plans for the week depend a bit on getting back into work and seeing if dear colleagues have set me up for anything, but these should be clear.)

That would be lovely! Maybe Friday? That will give me an incentive to go up to Roydon on my first real day and get the sad part of my trip over with. I ll be checking the mail-forward account on this account from now on (had forgotten I had it and just found a message from someone on my flist that I had not answered - I have now!) I think what I ll do is send contact info via mail-forwarding to those of you who I might get a chance to meet. I m not taking my laptop, but no doubt can find an internet cafe or some such near my hotel...

Friday should be good. Do you fancy delicious South Indian vegetarian buffet, or would you prefer the tapas bar?

I suspect plans are still afoot, but since you mention off-list contact, I thought I'd write to make sure. From comments, you're organizing something for Saturday? Hopefully it'll be daytime, especially if one person is coming from Canterbury for it.

Except for Thursday late afternoon/evening and Saturday evening, my schedule is quite free at the moment.

yes, I think Saturday lunch will be good for a general meet-up. Have sent emails to everyone and will be in touch again once I have more info (like a phone contact number)
