Happy Thanksgiving (among other thoughts)

Thanksgiving Bouquet

I was inspired by papersky's beautiful post this morning to go out in search of autumn leaves. But it's a little too early here - we need a hard frost before the leaves will turn to bright colours. The dogs and I had a nice walk in the still very green forest of Mt Doug.

It was a lovely day yesterday, with the kind of light Jo talks about, and crisp cool air. I spent the afternoon in the garden, then came in for a delicious dinner of turkey and all the trimmings.

I meant to share it with my friend kp, but she was not well, so I was alone. That was okay. More or less. Though I ended up drinking too much, probably to compensate.

On a completely different topic, do you realize it's been more than seven years since I first started writing in LJ??

I know I haven't been keeping up with it. Part of the problem is that I'm no longer sure who's reading. People seem to be drifting away... But then, seven years is a big commitment. Not something to give up lightly. And this journal has been a life-saver over the years, a bulwark against isolation and loneliness.

And yet.

There's nothing worse than going onto social software and not getting any response. Can there be anything lonelier? I think I haven't been posting because I've been afraid of the void...

So this is a bit of a risk, isn't it?

I'm here and I'm listening.

It isn't the same. I do post elsewhere -- Dreamwidth, Twitter, Facebook, Buzz. But I still read my old friends here.

Thank you. It's good to know you're there...

That's a lovely bunch of seasonally-colored flowers.

I'm still reading, though I'm not posting much worthwhile these days. Moving is eating my brain.

I'm not exactly a longtime follower but I always enjoy your posts! I'm just a crap commenter.

I read...

Yeah, I always read LJ, but I don't comment that much (and how much I comment is highly dependent on external factors - I comment a lot more when I'm procrastinating, for instance, like now). I appreciate you having an LJ just because you seem to be a cool person that I have met, and it's interesting to read about your life. But I'm not in the least a practical person, so I don't have much to say when you write about your life anyway.

I read.

But reading on a smartphone is easier than writing, and writing time is always harder to find than reading time.

I probably comment two or three times a week, spread among a couple of dozen live journals and other blogs. Social networking is the sum of the whole.

I'm still reading!

I've noticed that LJ is a lot quieter, even journals that used to get very high numbers of comment get far fewer these days.

LJ suits me and I don't actually mind that a lot of trivia has moved to Facebook. It means that the posts that people do write tend to be more interesting. I'm afraid that I don't always comment though. It's not always easy to think of something to say that isn't glib or pointless.

I'm definitely reading, but I don't always comment. I know people drift in and out on LJ, but there's still a core of important people. I know what you mean, though - the more effort put into an entry, the more depressing if no-one, or hardly anyone, responds. But I suppose we do do this for ourselves as well as the Pixel People out there.

Happy (yesterday's) Thanksgiving!

I'm back to LJ reading - was blown out of everything by Becca's injury (and worry about isolation increasing depression) but here again till the next crisis, I say cheerfully.

Also, know this fear of which you speak, yes.

I still read most of my friends' page. But then again I don't really post anymore (have mostly migrated to Facebook to share spur-of-the-moment thoughts).

I know what you mean and I think your blog is great. I hope you keep putting your thoughts up here because they're so varied and so interesting.

I'm just waaaay behind on reading and commenting. my own posting is even more seriously behind. But yes, I always read anything you post! (especially if it has animal pictures with it...:-)
