You know your dog is old when...

You have to drive him (two and a half blocks) to the dog park.
You are ecstatic when you realize that he's still breathing, though deeply asleep.
You use your mother's wheelchair lift to get him up and down the front steps of the house.
You have little pieces of yoga mat all around your house, to give him traction on your wood floor.
Your cat doesn't take him seriously.

With our previous family dogs (the current batch are all younger dogs) I do remember that sensation of realizing one's dog was getting older, and wanting really hard to stop time.

When Sandy (our golden retriever) was having trouble jumping on the bed, my parents removed the frame to lower the boxspring and the bed down to a level that Sandy could manage.

But you do all those things because if her weren't there, you couldn't. Hugs to both of you.

Well, of course... I'd rather HAVE him, with all his infirmities. But he's like a clock running down...
